Jakob
The eldest always knew what he wanted to be: a host. For 14 years, he has pursued this goal with the determination and patience of a born innkeeper. Today, he is a trained chef and certified Hotelier-Restaurateur HF (Lucerne Hotel Management School), mastered mixology at Munich's renowned Schumann’s Bar, and embraced a laid-back approach in Colombia. His knack for numbers was proven during his work at the Roomers Design Hotel in Munich. Jakob's expertise spans operations, staff planning, purchasing, and controlling, right down to the kitchen. At XAVER'S, he is not only the host but the link between kitchen crew, service staff, and guests. In 2022, he took over our family business, Alter Wirt in Grünwald.
THERESA
With her cheerful nature, she forms our golden center. Born and raised between her two brothers, she naturally became the calm mediator. Even in her early days working in the family business, she acted as a mediator for the entire team, fostering a harmonious work atmosphere. "Resi," as a Junior Project Manager at HEART, quickly learned to take the reins. As a hospitality specialist, she anticipates guests' needs even before they do. It's a perfect fit at XAVER'S, where she not only looks after our guests' well-being and a balanced team dynamic but also focuses on event organization and seamless service operations.
XAVER
Our namesake and the youngest of the group is far from a fledgling. At 14, he set off for the first time into the wide world, traveling to Bogotá, Colombia. This was followed by a trip to Tanzania, an Atlantic crossing, and a six-month journey across South America. Along the way, he organized his very first party, completed an apprenticeship as an event manager, and proved his skills as an operations manager and project manager, including at Munich’s Hearthouse. Ten years later, after hosting some of the most successful parties at Lenbachs & Söhne, he embodies the youthful energy and passion for celebrating that Munich has long needed. Xaver is the creative force who, with his eye for detail and deep sense of contemporary aesthetics, has built a network where young and old alike come together.

Our great-grandfather, Georg Portenlänger, along with his wife Anna, purchased the Alte Wirt—back then, a tavern with a beer garden
1949
Thirty years later, his son, also named Georg (Chairman of the Munich Butchers’ Guild), took over the Alte Wirt in
1991
Our parents, Ulli and Carola Portenlänger, took over the hotel “Alter Wirt”.
2006
Our hotel, the Alte Wirt, is 100% organically certified.
2017
All three of us are, after all, part of the Augustiner Festhalle team at the Oktoberfest.
2018
With XAVER’S, we’re opening our very first own place.
2022
Since 2022, we have been official ambassadors for Bavaria as a travel destination.
2022
In 2022, we took over the city’s smallest live music dive bar—Mister B’s.
